Hercules (A Walt Disney Masterpiece)

(more) »rank: 149

starring: Tate Donovan, Josh Keaton, Roger Bart, Danny DeVito, James Woods
directed by: Ron Clements, John Musker

Editorial Product Review: :Not the egregious foul it seemed to be in theaters, Hercules stands up as an entertaining spritzer of an animated feature. The continual peppering of in-jokes and cultural references becomes less irksome on video. That there's no majesty or awe invested in the beloved Greek legends also seems less of an error. Also on the plus side is the bounciest Alan Menken music since Little Shop of Horrors. With Zeus's blood in his veins, young Hercules's amazing strength makes him an outcast (sorry, that still ...

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

(more) »rank: 1116

starring: Jack Nicholson, Louise Fletcher, William Redfield, Michael Berryman, Peter Brocco
directed by: Milos Forman

Editorial Product Review:Description:A nice rest in a state mental hospital beats a stretch in the pen, right? Randle P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson), a free-spirited con with lightning in his veins and glib on his tongue, fakes insanity and moves in with what he calls the 'nuts.' Immediately, his contagious sense of disorder runs up against numbing routine. No way should guys pickled on sedatives shuffle around in bathrobes when the World Series is on. This means war! On one side is McMurphy. On the other is soft-spoken ...

La Confidential

(more) »rank: 8620

starring: Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, James Cromwell, Kim Basinger
directed by: Curtis Hanson

Editorial Product Review: essential video:In a time when it seems that every other movie makes some claim to being a film noir, L.A. Confidential is the real thing--a gritty, sordid tale of sex, scandal, betrayal, and corruption of all sorts (police, political, press--and, of course, very personal) in 1940s Hollywood. The Oscar-winning screenplay is actually based on several titles in James Ellroy's series of chronological thriller novels (including the title volume, The Big Nowhere, and White Jazz)--a compelling blend of L.A. history and pulp fiction that has ...

Terms of Endearment

(more) »rank: 8581

starring: Shirley MacLaine, Debra Winger, Jack Nicholson, Danny DeVito, Jeff Daniels
directed by: James L. Brooks

Editorial Product Review: essential video:Larry McMurtry's novel becomes a somewhat lumpy film as directed by James L. Brooks (As Good As It Gets). Nevertheless, it is entirely winning, with Shirley MacLaine and Debra Winger playing a combative mother and daughter who see each other through various ups and downs in love and loss, and most especially through a terminal illness endured by Winger's character. Jack Nicholson deservedly won an Oscar for his supporting role as a free-spirited astronaut who backs away from a romance with MacLaine and ...

Batman Returns

(more) »rank: 2018

starring: Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Michael Gough
directed by: Tim Burton

Editorial Product Review: essential video:The first Batman sequel takes a wicked turn with the villainous exploits of the freakish and mean-spirited Penguin (Danny DeVito), whose criminal collaboration with evil tycoon Max Shreck (Christopher Walken) threatens to drain Gotham City of its energy supply. As if that weren't enough, Batman (Michael Keaton) has his hands full with the vengeful Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer), who turns out to be a lot more dangerous than a kitten with a whip. As with the first Batman feature, director Tim Burton brings his ...

Look Who's Talking Now (Slip)

(more) »rank: 13186

starring: John Travolta, Kirstie Alley, David Gallagher, Tabitha Lupien, Lysette Anthony
directed by: Tom Ropelewski

Editorial Product Review: :The last film in the minifranchise goes to the dogs, literally, to keep the series' major gimmick intact--letting the audience hear the thoughts of the little newcomers in the Ubriacco family. The kids who were once babies in the two prior films can now babble for themselves, so the script finds the adult characters taking in two mutts who do a 'Lady and the Tramp' thing while we listen in. Travolta (rescued a year later in 1994's Pulp Fiction) and Alley mark time while Danny ...

Goin South

(more) »rank: 1026

starring: Luana Anders, Ed Begley Jr., John Belushi, Richard Bradford, Maureen Byrnes

Editorial Product Review: :Nicholson directed and starred in this Western spoof about an outlaw who is saved from hanging by a young widow (Mary Steenburgen) who puts him to work as an indentured servant. She has a gold mine that no one knows about and she wants him to help her get the gold before anyone else finds out. But, of course, his old gang--who gave him up to the law in the first place--finds out about the mine and wants a piece of it. This was filmed ...

Romancing the Stone

(more) »rank: 1426

starring: Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, Danny DeVito, Zack Norman, Alfonso Arau
directed by: Robert Zemeckis

Editorial Product Review: essential video:Director Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Contact) had a hit with this 1984 comedy that first teamed Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, and Danny DeVito. Turner steals the show from the guys, however, playing a pushy romance novelist who gets stuck among some dangerous figures in Colombia and has only a rumpled guide (Michael Douglas) as an ally. The chemistry between the stars is infectious (the trio went on to make a sequel, Jewel of the Nile, and then an interesting, dark comedy directed by ...

Big Fish (Dol Slip)

(more) »rank: 7026

starring: Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, Billy Crudup, Jessica Lange, Helena Bonham Carter
directed by: Tim Burton

Editorial Product Review: :After a string of mediocre movies, director Tim Burton regains his footing as he shifts from macabre fairy tales to Southern tall tales. Big Fish twines in and out of the oversized stories of Edward Bloom, played as a young man by Ewan McGregor (Moulin Rouge, Down with Love) and as a dying father by Albert Finney (Tom Jones). Edward's son Will (Billy Crudup, Almost Famous) sits by his father's bedside but has little patience with the old man's fables, because he feels these stories ...

Baby - Reviews

Usually we're fans of Logitech's gaming mice, but its highest-end G9 Laser Mouse is expensive, overly complex, and lacks the ergonomic thought we've come to expect. If you like to brag about dot-per-inch limits, perhaps the G9's 3,200dpi laser will be enough to sell you, but for the price, we expect the design to match.

While compact and convenient, Panasonic's SD-based SDR-S150 camcorder doesn't make the quality cut.
