Schoolhouse Rock! - Grammar Rock

(more) »rank: 20

starring: Bob Dorough, Blossom Dearie, Christine Langner, Sue Manchester, Mary Sue Berry
directed by: Tom Warburton

Editorial Product Review: :There are two types of Schoolhouse Rock fans. Type A: those who--inspired in the '70s and '80s by 'Conjunction Junction' and 'Interjections!'--went on to become grammar gurus, copyeditors, and computational linguists. And type B: those who--less inspired by grammar than by catchy refrains--can still sing lines that today sound less than P.C.: Though Geraldine played hard to get (uh huh), Geraldo knew he'd woo her yet. He showed his affection, Despite her objection, And Geraldine hollered some interjections! (Geraldo, if you'll recall, is a ...

Editorial Product Review: essential video:Not an ideal choice for younger kids, this hip and violent animated feature from Disney was nevertheless a huge smash in theaters and on video, and it continues to enjoy life in an acclaimed Broadway production. The story finds a lion cub, son of a king, sent into exile after his father is sabotaged by a rivalrous uncle. The little hero finds his way into the 'circle of life' with some new friends and eventually comes back to reclaim his proper place. ...

Aladdin (A Walt Disney Classic)

(more) »rank: 41

starring: Scott Weinger, Robin Williams, Linda Larkin, Jonathan Freeman, Frank Welker
directed by: Ron Clements, John Musker

Editorial Product Review: essential video:Disney's 1992 animated feature is a triumph of wit and skill. The high-tech artwork and graphics look great, the characters are strong, the familiar story is nicely augmented with an interesting villain (Jafar, voiced by Jonathan Freeman), and there's an incredible hook atop the whole thing: Robin Williams's frantically hilarious vocal performance as Aladdin's genie. Even if one isn't particularly moved by the love story between the title character (Scott Weinger) and his girlfriend Jasmine (Linda Larkin), you can easily get lost ...

Schoolhouse Rock! - America Rock

(more) »rank: 11

starring: Bob Dorough, Blossom Dearie, Christine Langner, Sue Manchester, Mary Sue Berry
directed by: Tom Warburton

Editorial Product Review: :Once upon a time kids learned many of their school lessons in the three-minute episodes of Schoolhouse Rock. These educational cartoons came on during the commercial breaks of the less-than-edifying Saturday morning fare in the 1970s, and despite their healthy content, kids stayed glued to the screen to sing along to the somewhat psychedelic cartoons. Countless children hummed their way through social studies. The Preamble to the Constitution is much easier to remember when it's set to music. And everyone who saw the cartoon ...

The Lion King II: Simba's Pride

(more) »rank: 1129

starring: Matthew Broderick, Moira Kelly, Neve Campbell, Liz Callaway, Michelle Horn
directed by: Rob LaDuca, Darrell Rooney

Editorial Product Review: :Another made-for-video sequel to a Disney masterpiece. As with the Beauty and the Beast and Pocahontas sequels, most of the recognizable vocal talents return, creating a worthwhile successor to the highest-grossing animated film ever. We pick up the story as the lion king, Simba (voiced by Matthew Broderick), and Nala (Moira Kelly) have a new baby cub, a girl named Kiara (Neve Campbell). Like her father before, she seeks adventure and ends up outside the Pridelands, where lions loyal to the evil Scar (who ...

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

(more) »rank: 14

starring: Ann Altieri, Gail DeFaria, Lisa DeFaria, Sally Dryer, Bill Melendez
directed by: Bill Melendez

Editorial Product Review: :Excellent condition, plays great, includes the original VHS, case, and paperwork, fast shipped, ask me for my VHS List! :D :Charlie Brown gets rocks in his trick-or-treat bag, Linus awaits a visitation from the Great Pumpkin in his terribly sincere pumpkin patch (while the adoring little Sally sits tight with him), Snoopy falls asleep, Lucy harasses Schroeder, and Pig-Pen kicks up a dust storm even beneath his costume in this classic television broadcast. Funny stuff, but also graced with Charles Schultz's more poignant ...

Schoolhouse Rock! - Science Rock

(more) »rank: 62

starring: Bob Dorough, Blossom Dearie, Christine Langner, Sue Manchester, Mary Sue Berry
directed by: Tom Warburton

Editorial Product Review: :Science is an important but complex subject that often seems overwhelming to kids. Science Rock takes a nontraditional approach to this subject, entertaining kids with upbeat music that features lyrics absolutely packed with information. Simple, accurate descriptions of the human body's digestive, circulatory, central nervous, and skeletal systems, along with explanations of energy sources, the solar system, and gravity provide the thematic material for eight rock- and blues-inspired songs that kids find immediately appealing. Especially effective are the description of the central nervous system ...

starring: Miguel Ferrer, Harvey Fierstein, Freda Foh Shen, June Foray, James Hong
directed by: Tony Bancroft, Barry Cook

Editorial Product Review: :Solid entertainment from a new group of Disney animators. The story source is a Chinese fable about a young girl who disguises herself as a man to help her family and her country. When the Huns attack China, a call to arms goes out to every village, and Mulan's father, being the only man in the family, accepts the call. Mulan (voiced by Ming-Na Wen, sung by Lea Salonga) has just made a disastrous appearance at the Matchmaker and decides to challenge society's expectations ...

Goosebumps -The Haunted Mask

(more) »rank: 123

starring: Masato Chikusa, Gary Pearson (II), Kerry Duff, Sheldon Smith, Shadia Simmons
directed by: Ron Oliver, Timothy Bond, Craig Pryce, Randy Bradshaw, David Winning

Editorial Product Review:Description:Carly Beth is quiet and shy -- easily scared and overly trusting. She's never seen such a great Halloween mask -- really scary, really creepy, and really life-like. She has to have it -- to scare those boys who tease and humiliate her all the time! And when she does get it, the mask is every bit as weirdly spooky as she had hoped it would be. But wearing the mask seems to be causing strange things to happen to her and other people. ...

Usually we're fans of Logitech's gaming mice, but its highest-end G9 Laser Mouse is expensive, overly complex, and lacks the ergonomic thought we've come to expect. If you like to brag about dot-per-inch limits, perhaps the G9's 3,200dpi laser will be enough to sell you, but for the price, we expect the design to match.

While compact and convenient, Panasonic's SD-based SDR-S150 camcorder doesn't make the quality cut.
