Jaws 2

(more) »rank: 4650

starring: Roy Scheider, Lorraine Gary, Murray Hamilton, Joseph Mascolo, Jeffrey Kramer
directed by: Jeannot Szwarc

Editorial Product Review: :Ushering in the age of the inferior sequel, Jaws 2 was essentially a license to print money. Indeed, the film did very well despite blatantly replicating the plot of Steven Spielberg's original, though to lesser effect. Roy Scheider returns as Martin Brody, sheriff of the small island town of Amity. Just as the beachside resort is rebounding from the previous movie's shark attacks, another great white is snacking on divers and water-skiers. Naturally, the town fathers don't want to ...

Somewhere in Time

(more) »rank: 9533

starring: Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour, Christopher Plummer, Teresa Wright, Bill Erwin
directed by: Jeannot Szwarc

Editorial Product Review: :It's silly, it's superficial, it's so desperately earnest about its tale of time-spanning love that you almost wish for a cheap flatulence gag just to break the solemn mood. But there's something so unabashedly gushy and entertaining about Somewhere in Time that you can't begrudge its enduring popularity. The film has become a staple of romantic-movie lovers since its release in 1980, and endless showings on cable TV have turned it into a dubious classic of sorts--a three-hanky weeper ...

Supergirl (International Version)

(more) »rank: 9092

starring: Faye Dunaway, Helen Slater, Peter O'Toole, Mia Farrow, Brenda Vaccaro
directed by: Jeannot Szwarc

Editorial Product Review: :Supergirl qualifies as one of the most bizarre comic book adaptations ever to hit the silver screen. Bereft of logic or sensible plotting, but featuring a strong cast and slick special effects, the film follows Superman's cousin Kara (played by Helen Slater in her film debut) as she leaves Krypton to venture to Earth to retrieve the 'Omegahedron,' a life-force globe vital to her people's survival. She tracks down the device, unaware that it's fallen into the hands of ...

Santa Claus: Movie (1985)

(more) »rank: 16377

starring: Dudley Moore, John Lithgow, David Huddleston, Burgess Meredith, Judy Cornwell
directed by: Jeannot Szwarc

Editorial Product Review: :The producers of the Superman movies took a shot at revitalizing the myth of Santa Claus with this 1985 feature. Unfortunately, the results were much less compelling than the flagship Superman feature, despite a script by one of the latter's key writers (David Newman) and a story structure that is essentially a carbon copy of the Man of Steel's movie. The first half of Santa Claus: The Movie is a ponderous origins tale, in which we learn that Santa ...

Usually we're fans of Logitech's gaming mice, but its highest-end G9 Laser Mouse is expensive, overly complex, and lacks the ergonomic thought we've come to expect. If you like to brag about dot-per-inch limits, perhaps the G9's 3,200dpi laser will be enough to sell you, but for the price, we expect the design to match.

While compact and convenient, Panasonic's SD-based SDR-S150 camcorder doesn't make the quality cut.
